Cleaning House

By Pearl Conaway

After reading an old devotion for spring on the subject of housecleaning, it seemed to be good advice for the fall season as well.

My attention was caught by the falling leaves. The thought came to me that maybe I should consider shedding, as the leaves of the tree, some old or newly accumulated soul junk.

Do I need to shed some intolerance, anger, hate, greed, bitterness or a lie here and there?

Has immorality crept in? We are told that those kind of heart issues will keep us from entering into heaven.

In the Bible, Hebrews 12:1 it calls such things a weight or sin that will hinder us in running the race.

What do I need to clean

out of my house?

The apostles also taught believers to put off the old corruption.

While the fall leaves are of such brilliant and lovely colors they no longer have life. They are brittle, crumple easily and become as dross.

So I am asking myself some questions. Have I let some things that are not only useless and lifeless but also harmful become attached to my life?

We are told to put these aside, for God has something more beautiful and lasting with which to clothe the bare branches.

God has the perfect spiritual clothing for us to wear.

He gives love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance and desires us to clothe ourselves in love and humility.

Phillippians 4:6-9 sums it up by encouraging everyone to prayer and giving thanks, while giving our thought life to that which is true, honest, just, pure lovely and of good report. Thoughts become actions when given room or audience in our life.

No matter the season, cleaning house is a good thing.

I personally believe, that God in his infinite love and wisdom provided everything we need for both our physical and spiritual well being. He gave us his awesome creation for our sustenance and health, then made provision and hope for our eternal destinyClick on the link if you would like to know more.
