keep on
working the ground

As I was reading through the sayings in my devotional calendar, I came across one that said, “Pray for a good harvest, but keep on working the ground.”

It stopped me because I could remember times when “working the ground” seemed too hard or the work went too slowly, so it was easier to forget the whole task. I'm not proud of this, but sometimes we face the temptation to give up and it takes strength to go on.

I considered ways to deal with this and thought maybe a brief rest is called for, a little help-or maybe even a little time for reflection.

There is rest in the Lord even in the middle of our labors, that inner peace and rest He gives, that restores when the supply seems low.

It also helps to know we are not alone. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. “For we are labourers together with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

It is so hard sometimes to clear out the ground and replant, like when the potter had to redo the clay. Often the job is hot and seems endless, but God in His wisdom knows what is best and knows the end result.

make sure you're planting
the right thing

A few pages over in this calendar, it says we can't plant thorns and expect roses, that good and bad fruit cannot come from the same tree.

It is good to look at what we are growing What kind of seed have I planted and is it worth the hard work.

I am challenged to stay and dig, water or whatever the task is with the Lord.

Being a fellow worker with God far exceeds hoeing the weeds of my own will, where the harvest withers and dies.

So keep on working the ground, it will be worth it in the end.

I personally believe, that God in his infinite love and wisdom provided everything we need for both our physical and spiritual well being. He gave us his awesome creation for our sustenance and health, then made provision and hope for our eternal destinyClick on the link if you would like to know more.
